STORIES FROM THE STORM - The Stories

View from abroad by Charmain Clark

I was travelling and in Paris when I heard the news of the destruction and damage of the deluge via email from my son and text from a friend. Naturally, I contacted home and have never been to grateful that I live on a hill. Apparently the power to the house has been cut several times, so there'll be a big fridge clean out when I return, plus lots of garden damage which my family and friends have cleared up somewhat, bless them! That isnothing in comparison to the loss of life and property that others have sustained, so I am very grateful to providence that I have been spared so much. More than anything, I am glad to know that my family and friends are all OK, but those who have suffered losses are others' family and friends, so I commiserate with them. Thanks for the opportunity to make this comment. I am currently in London and am travelling to St. Petersburg for the weekend, then have a 24 hr. stopover in Athens before the long leg home via Bankok. Naturally, one can't do too much at this distance except receive news, but thank goodness for modern communications!
